A [I-Ca-I-Ca-I-Ca-I](2+) Chain Stabilized by Two Chelating beta-Diketiminate Ligands

We were able to obtain a [I-Ca-I-Ca-I-Ca-I](2+) chain stabilized by two chelating beta-diketiminate ligands from the reaction of (LH)-H-1 (L-1 = CH{Et2NCH2CH2N(CMe)}(2)) with KN(SiMe3)(2) and CaI2. [(LCaI)-Ca-1(mu-ICaI-mu)ICaL1] (1) was characterized by NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, microanalysis, and X-ray structural analysis. The X-ray structural analysis of 1 reveals a unprecedented Ca3I4 chain structure with the calcium atoms exhibiting different coordination modes within the complex. 1 is anticipated as a possible suitable precursor for low-valent calcium compounds.
