摘要

Particulate reinforced aluminum matrix composites have gained importance in automotive and aerospace industries because of their superior mechanical and tribological properties over the conventional aluminum alloys. In this work it is planned to fabricate and study the wear behavior of aluminum 7075 based metal matrix composite reinforced with silicon carbide and fly ash. The MMC was prepared by using Stir Casting Technique. The size of SiC particle is 400mesh. 3% of SiC and 5% fly ash are added to the base matrix. The wear tests are carried out using pin on disc apparatus and the coefficient of friction also calculated. Results show that addition of SiC increases the density and decreases the wear when comparing to pure Al7075. The addition of Fly ash decreases the density and the wear is also reduced considerably. However, Aluminum 7075 reinforced with SiC and Fly ash has less density and much more decreased wear rate when comparing to other materials.
