摘要

The reaction of vanillin with 1.0% (w/v) aqueous NaOH solution to generate a new aqua and vanillin bridged polymeric sodium complex, [Na-2(H2O)(4)(vanillin)](2n) (1), is reported together with single crystal X-ray structure determination. The synthesized complex has also been characterized by elemental analyses, IR, H-1 and C-13 NMR spectroscopy and thermal studies. The complex 1 crystallizes in an orthorhombic system, space group P-na21, with lattice parameters a = 12.2469(3) angstrom, b = 22.7142(5) angstrom, c = 6.7897(2) angstrom, alpha = beta = gamma = 90 degrees, which stabilizes in the solid state through strong non-covalent O center dot center dot center dot O intermolecular interactions to develop an extended three-dimensional rigid structure. The complex shows moderate inhibition activity against the growth of bacteria, E. coli and B. subtilis.
