Semi-coke desulfurizers for sulfur removal of FCC diesel oil were prepared by using the semi-coke, the cheap by-product of coal cooking (gasification), as the support after activation and by loading metal oxides on it with immersion method. The facts affecting desulfurization, such as activation methods, amount of metal loaded, temperatures of the adsorption bed, space velocity, were analyzed and the optimal processing conditions for sulfur removal were gained. The results indicated that activation of semi-cokes and metal oxide compounds loaded would improve the sulfur removal of the semi-coke remarkably. The optimal CuO loading was 1% while ZnO was 0.5%. From 60°C to 120°C, sulfur removal efficiency was increased with increasing the temperature but decreased over 120°C. The lower the space velocity was, the higher the desulfurization efficiency was.
