Romanian higher education institutions are now expected to manage their knowledge more efficiently, to keep up with the changes of the knowledge-based society. The scope of this research is to offer a perspective on knowledge management employment within a Romanian academic research consortium. Knowledge management aspects in universities are emphasized and a case study is presented to explore knowledge management-based practices in Romanian universities within the UNIKM consortium. This study was carried out using a survey and practices of the management of knowledge in teaching, research and student services have been analyzed. The results of this study show the members of the UNIKM consortium are using diverse practices of knowledge management, but there is still place for more improvements in sharing of knowledge.
