摘要

We determined the autotoxic potential of peanut (Arachis hypogaea) and examined the possible mechanisms of autotoxicity. The effects of peanut root exudates on seed germination, seedling growth, membrane peroxidation and antioxidant enzyme activities in peanut were evaluated. The neutral, acidic and basic fractions of root exudates significantly inhibited the radicle elongation in a dose-dependent manner. The neutral fraction was most inhibitory, while, the acidic and basic fractions had similar inhibitory effects. Twenty days after treatment, all three fractions similarly inhibited the seedling growth and radicle elongation. At 30 mg L-1 concentration, the neutral fraction reduced the plant height, shoot fresh weight, and root fresh weight by 80, 73, and 66% of control, respectively. The application of root exudates to peanut seedlings significantly increased the superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, peroxidase (POD) activity and malondialdehyde (MDA) content in the leaf. Among the three fractions, the neutral fraction caused maximum increases in antioxidant activities and MDA content, followed by the acidic and basic fraction. This study demonstrated the autotoxic potential of peanut root exudates.
