Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Mg-8Al-Sr-xCa (x=0.5, 1.0, 1.5) Alloys

摘要

The microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg-8Al-Sr-xCa (x=0.5, 1.0, 1.5 wt%) alloys were investigated. The results show that the microstructure of the as-cast alloys is mainly composed of alpha-Mg phase and beta-Mg17Al12 phase. After adding 1.5% Ca, a few Al2Ca particles are formed in the matrix. The grain is extremely refined by dynamic recrystallization after extrusion. During aging, beta-phase is changed into spherical shape. Tensile tests indicate that the tensile properties are improved for the as-cast alloy and the extruded with the content of Ca increasing from 0.5% to 1.5%. The yield strength and ultimate tensile strength of the extruded AJ80+1.5%Ca alloy are 274 MPa and 327 MPa, respectively. The improvement of tensile properties of the alloy is mainly due to the grain size refinement and precipitation strengthening of the fine Al2Ca particles and beta-Mg17Al12 phase containing Ca.
