Indirect interband optical transitions in a semiconductor quantum ring with submicrometer dimensions

摘要

It is shown that the optical absorption spectra of submicrometer-size semiconductor quantum rings strongly change with the incidence angle of the exciting light. Besides the usual direct optical transitions, additional indirect transitions occur for fields with the wave-vector components perpendicular to the symmetry axis of the ring. These indirect transitions are a consequence of the various orbital angular momentum modes of light that become accessible when appropriate quantum rings are used.
