Environmental issues generated by the metallurgical companies, big polluters, may be approached through regular assessment, using the environmental management system audit, of all activities. The paper presents a method which helps to quantify the degree of compliance in regards to the legal requirements and other requirements to which a metallurgical company has to obey. It also shows how to obtain the data needed to quantify the degree of compliance on certain categories of elements (water, air, soil, etc.) and their integration to achieve a value which would give the degree of compliance to the company.
