In the present contribution, the availability of different sources of renewable energy in Germany is considered. This is followed by an analysis of the mean operating reserve, which is statistically available, of the short-time operating reserve and of the storage period of 430 large hydro power stations in Germany with a capacity larger than 1 MW. For small hydro power stations with a capacity smaller than 1 MW, the estimation of the short-time storage potential is carried out. The two partial estimates allow an overall estimation of the hydro power operating reserve potential.
