A thermal rearrangement leading to dihydrofuropyridinones and related polycyclic ring systems from furanones and cyclobutenones is described. A key feature of the reaction is the thermally induced hydride transfer from a 3 degrees-amine to a conjugated allene to trigger cyclization.
