Aza-Morita-Baylis-Hillman reaction of maleimides with azodicarboxylates under neat conditions

Green approach on reaction of diisopropylazodicarboxylate or diethyl azodicarboxylate with maleimides proceeded smoothly under neat condition at 70A degrees C to give the corresponding hydrazine substituted pyrrolidinone as aza-Morita-Baylis-Hillman adducts in moderate to good yields in the presence of 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO) as nitrogen Lewis base.
