摘要

Based on thermodynamic theory, size-dependent magnetoelectric coupling effect in layered multiferroic heterostructures was investigated with the consideration of surface effect and size effect. Critical size of the BaTiO(3) thin film epitaxially grown between SrRuO(3) electrodes on a thick CoFe(2)O(4) substrate was probed numerically by finding the point where paraferroelectric phase transition occurs. The critical size of the BaTiO(3) film in the considered system is about 37-56 nm, which is dependent on the applied magnetostriction because of the strong magnetoelectric coupling effect. The magnetoelectric coupling effect is unstable in the vicinity of the critical size and disappears below the critical size.
