In the title compound, C12H16N6O2 center dot 2H(2)O, the organic molecule, except for the methyl H atoms, is essentially planar, the r.m.s. deviation from planarity being 0.044 angstrom. The crystal structure is stabilized by intermolecular O-H center dot center dot center dot O and O-H center dot center dot center dot N hydrogen bonds which form chains.
