In this work, multiresolution analysis of the stator startup current is carried out in order to detect the presence of axial static eccentricity in an induction motor. For this purpose, the discrete wavelet transform is applied and wavelet signals at different levels are studied. Data are obtained from simulations, using modified winding function approach, which allows forcing several kinds of faults in the machine, considering axial nonuniformity. For simulation of induction machine under axial nonuniformity conditions, this paper determines a modified model of induction machines. By means of the modified model, inductances of a three-phases squirrel-cage induction machine under axial nonuniformity conditions are calculated. Calculated inductances are used in a coupled electromagnetic model, for simulation of induction motor under healthy and faulty conditions. The results show the validity of the approach for detecting the fault and discriminating with respect to other failures.
