摘要

Although more and more small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in china begin to implement e-business which is increasingly important to competing in global markets, rushed and ineffective implementation of e-business in them results in valuable resources being wasted without achieving significant tangible benefits. To minimize risks and maximize potential benefits in e-business implementation, SMEs in china needs to know to what degree it is ready for e-business and in what aspects it needs to improve itself before implementing e-business. A number of studies have been conducted towards assessing countries' e-readiness. A small number of studies have undertaken as assessment of the adoption of e-business in SMES in developed countries, e.g. the United States, Australia, and some European countries. However, relatively little is done for china, a developing country. This paper proposes an e-readiness assessment model from the perspective of SMEs in developing country. and describes the e-readiness assessment methodology. The assessment model contains four hierarchical levels, including 59 specific assessment indicators, which will help identify specific weak areas for SMEs to improve in order to get ready for better e-business implementation in the future.
