摘要
Secondary clinical deterioration of newborns in the early postnatal period may occur due to many reasons including sepsis, cardiac defects and metabolic disorders. Clinical symptoms are usually non-specific but often fulminant and life-threatening. Early detection and diagnosis of these emergency situations are crucial for adequate therapy and advantageous outcome; therefore, all professionals involved in neonatal care need to be aware of the early signs and differential diagnoses while theoretical and practical skills should be trained on a regular basis.
