摘要

Nano and micron-sized core-shell particles with an elastomeric core and rigid polymer shell were facilely prepared in aqueous condition. Epoxidized Natural Rubber (ENR) latex, containing 30% ENR, was used for the core and urea-formaldehyde(UF) prepolymer was used to form the UF shell around ENR particles by a poly-condensation reaction. Transmission electron micrographs confirmed that the synthesized ENR based core-shell particles (E-CSPs) had a core-shell structure. The morphology and structure of the E-CSPs were also studied by field emission scanning electron microscope, fourier transmission infrared, thermogravimetric and dynamic thermomechanical analysis, respectively. The E-CSPs were incorporated into epoxy resin as toughening agent. The impact strength was enhanced significantly. Young's modulus and tensile strength were reduced, but the glass transition temperature of the epoxy was unchanged by the addition of the E-CSPs.
