Murine Models Demonstrate Distinct Vasculogenic and Cardiomyogenic cKit(+) Lineages in the Heart

<jats:p> After 2 recent genetic studies in mice addressing the developmental origins <jats:sup> <jats:xref ref-type="bibr">1</jats:xref> </jats:sup> and regenerative activity of cardiac cKit <jats:sup>+</jats:sup> cells, <jats:sup> <jats:xref ref-type="bibr">2</jats:xref> </jats:sup> 2 additional reports by Sultana et al <jats:sup> <jats:xref ref-type="bibr">3</jats:xref> </jats:sup> and Liu et al <jats:sup> <jats:xref ref-type="bibr">4</jats:xref> </jats:sup> provide further information on the expression of <jats:italic>cKit</jats:italic> in the embryonic and adult hearts. Here, we synthesize the findings from the 4 distinct cKit models to gain insights into the biology of this important cell type. </jats:p>
