An unprecedented one-dimensional chainlike compound with green fluorescent emission, (H3O)[Ag-3(2,2'-bpy)(2)(phnz)(2)-(beta-Mo8O26)] (bpy = bipyridine, phnz = phenazine) has been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. The compound is constructed from beta-octamolybdate clusters linked through two kinds of silver-ligand subunits, [Ag(2,2'-bpy)(phnz)](+) and [Ag(phnz)](+).
