摘要

Combustion synthesis has been employed to produce porous Ni3Ti-TiCx composites for utilization as bone-replacement orthopedic implants or high temperature filters. The level and extent of porosity and TiCx content has been shown to affect the modulus and ultimate strength of the composites. Experimental mechanical properties obtained from micro- and nano-indentation analysis and quasi-static compression tests were shown to agree with predicted mechanical properties. SEM photomicrographs of the fractured samples and surfaces are provided. The composites possess mechanical properties that are close to those of femur bone and are superior to commonly used metallic and ceramic systems in biomedical applications.
