摘要
Morphology and crystal structure of beta precipitate phase in Mg-7Gd-5Y-1Nd-0.5Zr (mass fraction, %) alloy were characterized by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Compositions were determined for beta phase using thin foil energy dispersive spectroscopy. Precipitation at 400 degrees C involves formation of (1 (1) over bar 00)(alpha) platelet and block-shaped beta phase. The orientation relationship is ((2) over bar 11)(beta)//(01 (1) over bar0)(alpha) and [0 (1) over bar1](beta)//[0001](alpha) between beta precipitate phase and alpha-Mg matrix with habit planes parallel to ((1) over bar 100)(alpha), and a composition of Mg-5(Y0.4Gd0.4Nd0.2) is suggested for the beta phase in Mg-7Gd-5Y-1Nd-0.5Zr alloy.
