摘要

Biomaterials as artificial extracellular martixes (ECMs) have played a great role in tissue engineering. This paper analyzed the interaction between cells and biomaterials surface. The complexity of biomaterials were discussed in some aspects such as the biomaterials containing water, biomaterials surface topography, biomaterials surface specificity recognition, as well as healing induced by biomaterials,. The effect of biomaterials on cells is a bi-directional, dynamic process, regulating the balance between cell growth and apoptosis, and is a challenge to biomaterials design and surface modification. Based on the effect of biomaterials on cells growth, some ideas were put forward, e.g. biomimetic modification of biomaterials surface for improving cells affinity, carbohydrate cluster, glycolipid and protein modifying biomaterials surface in order to enhance cells specificity recognition, self-assembly of materials to modify surface topography.
