The temperature dependent output characteristics of a flashlamp-pumped Nd:YAG laser operating in the 1400 nm region of the spectrum are reported. Two kinds of output coupler were used to obtain single wavelengths of 1414 and 1444 nm. The output energy of the single oscillation at 1414 nm was 51% higher than the single oscillation at 1444 nm when the cooling water temperature was increased to 45 degrees C. This also showed that the effective stimulated emission cross-section at 1414 nm was higher than at 1444 nm.
