摘要

It has been demonstrated that by simple variation of the molecular chain length of the polyethylene glycol used in the Pechini method, the microstructural features such as crystallite size, morphology, and size distribution of Eu3+-doped Y2O3 nanoparticles can be tuned. These changes in the microstructural features are supported by the optical properties of the Eu3+-doped Y2O3 nanoparticles. A thorough investigation on the role played by cross-linking reagent in controlling the microstructural properties as well as the optical properties of the resulting nanoparticles has been carried with XRD, SEM, photoluminescence and life time analyses. The study points to the fact that it is possible to control the microstructural features of the oxide-based nanomaterials prepared via high temperature methods just by slightly tuning the chain length of the cross-linkers. Finally, the cytotoxicity of the resulting nanoparticles has revealed that the particles show less or no toxicity to HeLa cells.
