The serena subgroup (Chillcott, 1961a) belongs to the Fannia serena group of Fannia Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 (family Fanniidae). Two new species, Fannia longiseta Wang, sp. nov., and Fannia setitibia Wang, sp. nov., are described from China. To facilitate comparisons of the species, the original diagnosis of the F serena Subgroup is expanded. The 27 known species of the F serena subgroup in the world are reviewed and keyed. Fannia nigra Malloch, 1910 and Fannia collini d'Assis-Fonseca, 1966 are transferred to the Fannia posticata group and the Fannia lepida group, respectively. The distribution pattern, origin and evolutionary history of the subgroup are discussed.
