摘要

The Electromagnetic forming (EMF) method is one of high-velocity forming processes, which use an electromagnetic repulsive force to deform a workpiece. Advantages of this forming technique are summarized as improvement of formability, reduction in wrinkling occurrence, non-contact forming and application to various forming process. In this study, the EMF apparatus is developed and applied to sheet metal forming experiments. The EMF apparatus consists of capacitors, charging/discharging switch, charging circuit and forming coil. The current obtained from the forming coil produces a transient magnetic field when the discharging switch is closed, and then the eddy current in the opposite direction induced on the workpiece by Faraday's Law. The electromagnetic repulsive force between the forming coil and the workpiece is generated as a forming force. The free forming experiment with 1050 aluminum alloy is carried out using the EMF apparatus.
