Application of the Double Parabolic Quantum Well in a Laser

We propose an alternative method for the development of Al(x)Ga(1-x)As semiconductor laser diodes. The emission of this device is based on the behavior of the electrons inside of a system where the deposition with variable concentration of semiconductors creates a structure of two asymmetrical parabolic potential wells. Considering a position-dependent electron effective mass, we solve the Schrodinger equation to calculate the ground state energy, first and second excited state energies and the emission frequency of the laser as well as the relevant factor for the gain. These results are compared with values found in the literature for systems that work with rectangular potential wells. Forming structures or chains consisting of double parabolic potential wells separated by different given distances, the rise of subbands is observed. Our study has been performed considering different parabolic potential wells and a variety of separation distances between the double potential wells on the chains.
