摘要

Assessment of Risk for In-Hospital Suicide and Aggression in High-Dependency Care Environments Leslie Rittenmeyer High-dependency environments are complex both from the standpoint of diversity of patient types and the nature of their functioning. Owing to variability in the characteristics of the patient population, the critical care environment presents its own unique set of safety challenges. This article addresses two of those: risk of in-hospital (outside the psychiatric unit) suicide and potential for family or patient aggression. Being attuned not only to the physical status of the patient but also to the emotional/psychological status is paramount in maintaining a safe environment. Staff training and education are paramount in reducing risk.
