摘要

Background. Several new renal tumor types have emerged since the last edition of the World Health Organization (WHO) classification of renal tumors in 2004. Based on a systematic literature review, an international survey among experienced uropathologists and the results of a consensus conference, the International Society of Urological Pathology (ISUP) proposed several changes to the currently revised WHO classification. This article summarizes the WHO classification and the changes proposed by the ISUP Vancouver classification. Additionally, recent literature on the provisional tumor entities is included. Results and discussion. Several recently identified rare renal tumor entities demonstrate characteristic morphology, genetic background and course of disease, as far as there are enough data. New data on provisional entities, such as succinate dehydrogenase subunit B (SDHB) deficiency associated renal cell carcinoma and anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) translocation renal cell carcinoma confirm their distinctive morphological and molecular features.
