摘要

AC filters play the role of both restraining the AC side harmonics and reactive power compensation, whose reliable operation directly affects the HVDC transmission system. This paper analyzes the mechanism of the fault of the AC filter, including the short-circuit fault, capacitor damage, equipment overload, filter detuning and other faults. Through fault analysis and EMTDC/PSCAD simulation, a systematic study of the protection for each kind of fault is done. Also, the characteristics and shortcomings of each protection are pointed out, which provides theoretical guidance for protection selection and configuration of AC filter in HVDC transmission project.
