摘要

Solid-set sprinkler irrigation has been widely used around the world because it can improve water application efficiency, increase crop production, and reduce environmental impact of irrigation. The uniformity of water distribution is a very important factor in the design and management of these sprinkler irrigation systems. In this article, a statistical method based on the coefficient of variation (CV) is evaluated using existing data to verify the rationale of this method. Two data sets of the water depths measured from different sprinkler systems were obtained. Eighteen randomly selected points from each data set were proved to be satisfactorily significant to evaluate the distribution of the intensity with 95% confidence limits compared with the results from the actual data points. A significant amount of labors and time can be saved with the application of this method when compared with the other traditional methods. This is a simple method that can provide irrigators, turf managers, and farmers a useful tool to evaluate the water distribution from their sprinkler irrigation systems.
