摘要

Industrial demands are increasing the need for ingot quality control and process optimization for hot-top direct chill casting. This paper presents measurements of temperatures at different positions in the ingot during production. The entire temperature distribution in the ingot was then obtained by interpolation to study the mushy zone';s properties. The results show that the hot top has an strong influence on the liquid aluminum temperature. The cooling rate of the ingot within the mold is quite low, with the chilling water removing most of the heat away the ingot. The results are useful for the process optimization.
