An Approach to Prepare Antimicrobial Fibers with Wood Periodate Oxycellulose Fibers

摘要

A kind of commercially elemental chlorine-free (ECF) bleached kraft softwood cellulose fibers was oxidized by periodate and then further grafted by chitosan with different molecular weights, finally the Chitosan-Dialdehyde Cellulose (C-DAC) fibers was prepared. The antimicrobial activities of the handsheets made of C-DAC fibers and some physical properties were measured. The results show that the C-DAC fibers have good antimicrobial activity against S. aureus and E. coli, also it can be improved significantly as the molecular weight of grafted chitosan on the dialdehyde cellulose fibers decreases.
