A new in situ combustion method was developed to prepared NiO-YSZ composite powder. Through adjusting the molar ratio of urea to nickel nitrate, high performance NiO-YSZ composite powder was synthesized. The microstructure properties of the powdesr and corresponding cells were investigated. The optimal molar ratio of CO (NH2) (2): Ni (NO3) (2) is 2:1. The performance of SOEC sigle button cells with hydrogen electrode prepared by this method were investigated. The OCV of the cell is 0.836 V and the current density is 0.968 A/cm(2) in 1.5 V with 80%H2O + 20%H-2 at 900 degrees C.
