摘要

The paper presents the grain size characteristics and concentrations of trace metals in bottom sediments taken from Utrata river (Poland). The samples from eight research positions were collected and analyzed for heavy metals (Ni, Cu, Cd and Pb) content and the size of grains. From those samples 10 various fraction sizes were selected, including mesh-over fraction and mesh-under fraction. The samples had similar amounts of granulometric fractions, in which the middle sand dominated. The biggest differences of the content of fractions were found between the thinnest and the thickest fraction. The volatility of heavy metal concentration in bottom sediments was significant. The highest value was found in the positions situated in the end of researched part of river. In obtained results differences between the contents of heavy metals in analyzed fractions can be found. The lowest concentrations of nickel was found in the fraction 0.25 mm, lead and copper in the fraction 0.125 mm, zinc in the fraction 0.063 mm and cadmium in the fraction 0.09 mm. The groups were created for comparison of metal's content in samples. They were based on positive correlation between the amounts of metals in granulometric fractions. The variability of metals amounts is clear visible only in the case of Cd, and Ni. Zn. Cu and Pb were cumulated predominantly in thinner fractions. According to the classification of bottom sediments (three classes of purity) only sediments from first three research positions can be qualified to first class of purity.
