摘要

A new amphipod species of the family Maeridae Krapp-Schickel, 2008 is described from Brazil. Elasmopus longipropodus sp. nov. is very similar to E. rapax Costa, 1853, the type species of the genus, and has been cited as this species to Brazilian coast during the last years. The new Brazilian maerid species differs from all the other species of the E. rapax complex by: male gnathopod 2 elongated with subparallel margins; epimeral plate 3 broadly rounded, with posterior margin slightly serrate; uropod 3, outer ramus with two sets of long robust setae on the outer margin; and male telson with three subapical robust setae, the longer seta overreaching about 3 times the rounded tips of the telson.
