A novel method of joint inversion for six fracture elastic parameters

Based on the anisotropic theory, the fractured reservoir with the horizontal axis of symmetry and high angle may display the characteristics of horizontal transverse isotropy (HTI). Fracture prediction using the HTI anisotropic theory plays a significant role in identifying reservoir hydrocarbons. Based on the PP- and PS-wave reflection coefficient approximate equations in HTI media, a novel method has been proposed to identify fractured reservoir based on the joint inversion for six fracture elastic parameters by using the PP and PS data and the Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method. This paper begins with the derivation of PP- and PS-wave reflection coefficients formulas of HTI media. Then we apply MCMC method to estimate six fracture elastic parameters of the fractured reservoir directly, which uses Bayesian theory to improve the accuracy and stability of the estimated parameters owing to the blend of a priori information. In the end, the novel method based on the MCMC is tested on synthetic seismic data contaminated by random errors. The results show that the joint inversion of PP and PS waves based on the MCMC method appears more accurate, anti-noise and stable owing to the usage of the constrained PS wave and the MCMC method, which demonstrates the feasibility and validity of the method.
