摘要

The cyanophage L-DHS1, which infects Limnothrix planktonica, was isolated from Donghu lake, China. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a lytic cyanophage that can infect L. planktonica. L-DHS1 has a Siphoviridae bacteriophage-like structure consisting of an elongated head (115 x 72 nm) and a very long, flexible, noncontractile tail of approximately 660 nm. L-DHS1 has a unique funnel-like complex collar structure that is wider (48 nm) near the head and narrower near the tail. The collar is present at the base of the viral head and enables the tail to go through the structure to connect to the head. This is the first time that such a structure has been observed in a cyanophage and a bacteriophage.
