摘要

Recent data suggest that inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients do not receive preventive services with the same rigor as other patients, partly because visits to the primary care physician may be infrequent. Gastroenterologists are in a unique position to provide care in both specialty and health maintenance capacities, and must consider the distinctive needs of IBD patients who are commonly immunosuppressed. This article focuses in detail on current vaccine recommendations for IBD patients, and touches on issues faced in screening for preventable diseases, including screening for cervical, skin, and colorectal cancers; depression; tobacco abuse; and maintaining appropriate bone health.
