Aimed at the characteristics of difficult positioning and more transmission loss for three-dimensional underwater sensor network, a clustering routing algorithm based on depth and energy for three-dimensional underwater sensor network was proposed. In the process of clustering, the cluster-heads were selected according to the depth from the underwater nodes to the surface of the water and the residual energy of the nodes. The ordinary nodes selected their own cluster-heads, according to the depth differences between the nodes and the cluster-heads, to form the taper type cluster structure to fit the data transmission underwater. The transmission principle of transmitting upwards (towards water surface) and transmitting inwards (towards the cylinder heart based on the vertical line of the Sink nodes) was fully considered in data transmission of underwater nodes between the clusters, and the multi-hop transmission was adopted in the process. The data was delivered from the deepwater layer to the shallow water layer. The simulation results show that the algorithm can effectively balance the energy consumption of the network, prolong the network lifetime, and improve the data transmission efficiency of the underwater sensor network.
