A novel three-dimensional cadmium(II) coordination complex [Cd(H2L) (.) 1.5H(2)O] with space group P6(2) was obtained by selfassembly between H4L and cadmium(II). Each cadmium ion is seven coordinated by four nitrogen and three oxygen atoms from the H2L2-, forming a coordination geometry of distorted pentagonal bipyramid. This complex exhibits intense yellow emission at room temperature.
