A novel black start decision-making support system based on transient energy function method

The black start of an electric power system is always considered as a complex decision-making process. The lack of systematic and quantitative analysis of it has made the planning of black start difficult. This paper introduces the use of transient energy function method for the quantitative analysis of optimum start-up paths and closed-loop points. Computer algorithm and software have been developed and successfully applied to the black-start projects of several regional power grids in South China. The two practical cases presented in the paper demonstrate the methodology and its effectiveness.
