摘要

Status epilepticus, if untreated, can have dire consequences for the animal. One of the mainstays of treatment is the administration of anticonvulsants. This article describes the pathophysiology of seizure activity, and some of the more commonly used anticonvulsant agents used in dogs and cats, their mode of action, pharmacokinetics and clinical use. It also highlights some of the newer anticonvulsants being investigated. Aust Vet Pract 2012;42(4):339-348
