Adaptive parameterization and reconstruction of 3D face images using partial differential equations

This paper presents a method to parameterize and reconstruct the 3D face images in an adaptive manner. Based on the Fourier analysis of the local boundary curves, the significance of the corresponding terms of PDE is evaluated, with which the terms of PDEs are adaptively selected for the parameterization. Besides, an error-driven boundary curves selection algorithm is also proposed for the reconstruction, with which the reconstruction is carried out in an iterative but not a linear manner. Experiments are conducted on a laser scanned 3D face database, and the experiment results show the merits of the proposed method.
