摘要

False or nuisance alarms in chemical process alarm systems have an adverse effect on normal operations. Repeating alarms are the most common form of false or nuisance alarms, so chemical plant operations need to reduce repeating alarms to improve the performance of alarm systems. This paper introduces an optimal alarm limit design method based on data filtering and an alarm processing strategy called alarm auto-shelving. The combination of alarm auto-shelving and filtering reduces the information loss problem caused by long shelving periods. A case study is used to verify the usability of this strategy.
