摘要

The lactate concentration in arterialized blood is dependent on lactate production, release, distribution and elimination. Lactate elimination takes place in heart and liver and in other organs like brain and resting and exercising muscle. Since the elimination of lactate by an organ is dependent on the arterial lactate concentration and the blood flow through the organ, a decrease in blood flow due to increased exercise intensity causes an increase in the systemic lactate concentration. Additionally the amount of active muscle mass and the kind of recruited fibre types are important. Since the interactions are complex. it is not possible to precisely deduce the muscular energy metabolism of an individual athlete during exercise from the lactate concentration. However, because of the high reproducibility of the relation between the lactate concentration and relative power, lactate concentration is a good tool for judging individual variations in performance. To achieve that, it is absolutely necessary to test under reproducible conditions. Prerequisites are similar test schedules, similar ambient conditions and a comparable regeneration status of the athletes. Often it is difficult to discern between influences on the lactate concentration caused by different regeneration or by changes in the performance capacity. To make the interpretation more certain, additional parameters like ventilation, breathing frequency respiratory exchange ratio should be measured.
