摘要

Negative pressure wound therapy is a respected treatment method in human patients with acute and chronic wounds. The local application of negative pressure stimulates the blood flow and the formation of healthy granulation tissue, and also evacuates exudate. Worldwide, there is a growing interest in the application of negative pressure wound therapy in companion animals. Promising results have been reported although more research is necessary to study the effects of this treatment in dogs and cats. A thorough evaluation of the applicability and the advantages of negative pressure wound therapy in companion animals is recommended.
