A note on the growth of velocities in a collisionless plasma

We consider the initial value problem for the classical Vlasov-Poisson system with smooth compactly supported initial data. In the electrostatic case, we show that the size of the velocity support of the distribution function grows at most like t(2/7+epsilon) for any epsilon > 0.
