Bismuth(III)-Promoted C3-Ferrocenyl Alkylation of Indoles

Reaction of alpha-ferrocenyl alcohols with indoles in acetonitrile in the presence of Bi(NO3)(3)center dot 5H(2)O afforded 3-alkylated indole derivatives in good yields and high selectivity. Bi(NO3)(3)center dot 5H(2)O proved to be an efficient catalyst in such a transformation.
